"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."

A Synagogue on Mosque Land

Israelis are building a synagogue within the Islamic holy temple land used by the Al-Aqsa Mosque. This story sounds too far-out to be believed, but it was recently reported on Mosaic. Here is the transcript of the segment from Dahr Jamail. They are using a series of tunnels and apparently doing this without approval from the Muslims who run the Mosque. With this type of subversive building, how can Israel ever hope for support of their actions when they are so clearly inviting more hostilities? This is underhanded and seems designed only to anger Muslims and eventually drive them out of their own mosque and Jerusalem as a whole.

“Synagogue opened near Al-Aqsa Mosque stirs anger

Dubai TV, UAE — Presenter, Male #1: A large Jewish synagogue has been built less than 50 meters away from Al-Aqsa Mosque. The synagogue was built in a place considered to be part of a core and controversial issue in the negotiations between the Israelis and the Palestinians. It is a small part of the bigger picture that is being drawn by the occupation; in it, the city of occupied Jerusalem, will be vacant of its rightful owners. Katia Jameel reports from Jerusalem.

Reporter, Female #1: Surrounded by a barbed wire and under the control of these soldiers: this is how the Jerusalemites see the Noble Sanctuary; a scene they have become familiar with for many years. However, today’s closure of Jerusalem was for a different reason, mainly to secure the road ahead of these settlers, who turned out in large numbers to attend the opening ceremony of a new synagogue erected on part of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The synagogue is located less than 50 meters away from the holy Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem.

Guest, Male #2: Through its campaign, the Israeli occupation is seeking to build the world’s largest Jewish synagogue on part of the holy Aqsa Mosque; this part is located near the western wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Reporter, Female #1: To the Palestinians, the opening ceremony of the synagogue is the beginning of a campaign, which includes in its final stages, a plan to expand through a network of tunnels, with some extending inside the perimeters of Al-Aqsa Mosque. In addition, the synagogue may be equipped with two additional doors, leading to the front entrances of Palestinian homes owned by Jerusalemite families; a plan the Israelis started to work on nearly two years ago. The synagogue, which was built on a lot of land belonging to an Islamic Waqf or endowment, is a two-story building, with a dome-shaped structure at the top. This latest Israeli campaign is part of a long list of campaigns that are coming in different forms and shapes, but with one unattainable objective in mind: which is to judify the holy city of Jerusalem and expel its residents.
