Think everything has settled down in Iraq? Not so much. The following list is of attacks, though not all of them, in Iraq since Jan. 1, when a new U.S.-Iraqi security pact took effect. The list includes “major” attacks only starting on April 24th.
– April 27 —Nineveh: – Gunmen opened fire on two brothers, one of them was a soldier, in Reshidiyah neighborhood in northern Mosul on Sunday night. Both were killed at once.
- Police found unidentified dead body for a man in Nabi Yunis neighborhood in eastern Mosul on Sunday night.
- Gunmen killed a real estate agent in front of his house in Arbajiyah neighborhood in eastern Mosul on Sunday night.
Kirkuk: – Gunmen killed three Christian people in two incidents in two neighborhoods in southern Kirkuk on Sunday. The first incident took place in Wahid Huzairan neighborhood when gunmen attacked one of the houses inhabited by a Christian family around 10 p.m on Sunday night. They killed two women and ran away. Meanwhile other gunmen attacked another house in Domiz neighborhood in southern Kirkuk. They killed one young Christian man and wounded his father and brother.
Baghdad: (2 incidents) – A roadside bomb targeted the chief of Basra police’s convoy in Jirf AlNadaf in southeast Baghdad on Monday morning. No casualties reported.
- Gunmen threw a grenade on a police patrol beneath the Jadiriyah Bridge in downtown Baghdad around 9 p.m. Two policemen were wounded with their car damaged.
– April 26 —Nineveh: Two Iraqi soldiers were killed when gunmen attacked a checkpoint of Iraqi army in al Karama neighborhood in east Mosul on Saturday evening. A policeman was killed after insurgents broke in his house in alKhadraa area in east Mosul on Sunday morning.
Wasit: An American military unit in Wasit province raided a house in the 14th of July neighborhood in downtown Kut city at dawn, the Iraqi national police said. A man and woman were killed in the raid and four men were arrested by the American troops, including a police officer, the police said. The U.S. confirmed the incident but said six suspected terrorists were detained. In a statement, the U.S. said the man who died was a suspected terrorist and the woman who died was killed accidently. “During the engagement, a woman in the area moved into the line of fire and was also struck by gunfire,” the U.S. said. “A Coalition forces medic treated her on site, but she died of her wounds before she could be evacuated.” The U.S. said the raid was “fully coordinated and approved by the Iraqi government.”
Baghdad: 2 Events: – A roadside bomb targeted a national police patrol in Dora neighborhood in southern Baghdad around 9:30 p.m. One policeman was killed and another one was wounded.
– April 25 —Diyala: A roadside bomb planted in a residential plot of land in Tapa district, Khanaqeen exploded Friday evening killing two young men.
Nineveh: A roadside bomb targeted an Iraqi Army patrol in al Wihda neighbourhood, southeastern Mosul Friday killing one Iraqi soldier and injuring one woman who was in the vicinity.
A roadside bomb planted on the Sinjar – Baaj route 120 km to the northwest of Mosul exploded Friday targeting a car carrying the son of Sheikh Medlool al Mutlag, one of the tribal sheikhs of Shammar tribe, one of the biggest tribes in Iraq. The sheikh’s son was killed in the explosion.
Kirkuk: Two roadside bombs targeted a police patrol on the main road that connects Kirkuk with Baghdad around noon. Five policemen were wounded.

_ Feb. 11 — Twin car bombs explode at a bus terminal and market area in Baghdad, killing 16.
_ Jan. 4 — Female suicide bomber strikes Shiite pilgrims in Baghdad, killing 38.
_ Jan. 2 — Suicide bomber hits luncheon at a tribal leader’s home in Youssifiyah, killing 23.
