Much of the Honduran political establishment, including the mainstream media and the Catholic Church hierarchy, is supporting the coup that ousted elected president Manuel Zelaya.
However, an unprecedented march by thousands of rank-and-file Hondurans, including some who oppose Zelaya but won’t abide the coup, sought to welcome Zelaya on his planned return to the Honduran airport in Tegucigalpa. More at The Real News
As independent journalist Sandra Cuffe reports, the military blocked the marchers and even opened fire on some protesters, while also preventing Zelaya’s plane from landing. Meanwhile, the mainstream media in Honduras blacked out the news.
