"I know no safe depositary of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education. This is the true corrective of abuses of constitutional power."
--1820 -- Thomas Jefferson

The proposition that the people are the best keepers of their own liberties is not true. They are the worst conceivable, they are no keepers at all; they can neither judge, act, think, or will, as a political body.
-- John Adams

Fire the Morons in the Senate Who Won’t Vote for Health Care Reform

Sen. Harry Reid

Sen. Harry Reid

After all of this effort, the health care reform bill might not get passed in the Senate. This bill should be a no-brainer,  just to get something going and to put the insurance companies on notice (and to save lives) but certain congressmen are going to hold it up for numerous reasons, all selfish, all political, and all so they think they can get re-elected.  None of them deserve to be, if they are holding up live-saving health care for Americans.  And they are.

Now they are worried about money for abortion possibly being included in the bill (it’s not), — even though abortion is legal in the United States. Apparently, our Congressmen don’t like our laws.

Reid will likely include anti-abortion provision

(Politico) — Harry Reid spokesman Jim Manley signals that the senate majority leader will include a Stupor Amendment (aka Stupak-like amendment) in the final bill he is crafting. He emails:

Senator Reid opposes abortion except in the cases of rape, incest or when the life of the mother is at risk. Passing comprehensive health reform and improving access to health care will likely go a long way towards reducing the rate of unintended pregnancies and the resulting abortions.

I expect that any bill that Senator Reid brings to the floor will ensure that no federal funds are used for abortion and that the conscience rights of providers and health care facilities like Catholic Hospitals are protected.”

Catholic Hospitals?  Who gives a flying frak if their conscience is protected? This is not a Catholic country, and it’s not even a Christian country.  They need to do what our laws tell them to do.   Catholic hospitals, Catholic people, are bound by American laws. We don’t have to worry about their delicate sensibilities when thousands of Americans are dying every day because they don’t have health insurance.  Everything in this country always boils down to a damn religious debate.**  Ironically, if Jesus were walking around today, he’d be campaigning for single-payer health care, universal health care, and giving it away free to people who asked for it. Yes, Jesus would be for single-payer health care, no doubt about it.

“A Senate bill that prohibits federal funding for any of the insurance plans in the exchange would make it increasingly difficult for pro-life Democrats to undo what they increasingly see as a bill killer of an issue.”

Point #1:  Men and Catholics have to stop making abortion decisions for women.  This is not men’s concern and religion has to stay out of our laws. It sure as hell isn’t Harry Reid’s concern.

Point #2:  See point #1.

The rest of the world must be perplexed and bored silly with this debate.  After all, most of the world already has universal or single payer health care or both.  Only in America does something so obviously necessary collapse into such a ridiculous debate about “the government taking over peoples lives” or “this will lead to the government taking away our FREEDOMS!”  Blah, blah, blah.  I have heard these ridiculous claims hundreds of times over the last 4-6 weeks and they are having an effect not so much on the public but on the mushy, bubble-filled brains of politicians who are forever looking towards their next political campaign.  The same hysterical approach is taken with climate change legislation. We must be insane to elect these people.

This health care bill is taking up all the time on radio talk shows, TV talk shows, and many websites.  Why bother yakking about it any more?  Really, all that is left is to form strong coalitions to fire and replace the politicians who can’t get this thing passed.  Fire them all. Don’t want health care reform passed?  You’re fired. Voted against it?  You’re fired. Some of these cheap politicians (like Joe Lieberman, who said he can’t vote for the public option “in good conscience”)  don’t want Americans to have the health care that they themselves have had for years.  What does that tell you?   Joe Lieberman doesn’t want Americans to have the health care he has, that we have been paying for him to have for decades.   Neither do a lot of other Democrats.

These selfish politicians  need to lose their jobs, because they aren’t doing them.  In fact, since they are there in Washington to represent their constituents, and their constituents want health care reform with at least a public option, these stubborn people in Congress  are being insubordinate.*

Maybe taking the money out of politics would help this issue too. Something needs to change.  Nothing gets done, everything gets stuck in Congress by one or two or three selfish morons, and 300 million Americans pay the price.  We need to elect better people than this!

*I have the same problem with Rep. Michele Bachmann, the craziest nutcase in the Congress, who thinks that health care will lead to 13 year old girls having abortions in school clinics.   Bachmann will lose her job next year and fade into obscurity because she lies and because she doesn’t represent the public wishes, which are shouting at her to support health care.  Congressmen that ignore the will of the people must lose their jobs.

** I have had it with this religious crap!  We need to emphasize human and civil rights in this country, not this endless religious nonsense.
