Tonight on Countdown.
“This bill is no longer reform.”
The current health care reform argument: How do we preserve the for-profit system in our sick care system? It’s completely the wrong approach. Now the Democratic party is attacking Howard Dean for telling the truth on the U.S. sick care system. President Obama is pushing for this to be voted on by Christmas in order to preserve his reelection chances. Howard Dean’s advice is to kill the bill.*
Even worse, Obama is totally wrong on the health care reform bill. He seems to only want to get re-elected, at this point. You can’t force people to buy health insurance in a for-profit system without a public option. It’s just illegal and probably unconstitutional. There will be years of lawsuits and meanwhile, more people will die because they can’t afford health care. The bill we are currently left with that no one can agree on is nearly worthless. What is wrong with the Democrats? They are approaching this from a completely wrong place — letting Wall Street and capitalism have anything to do with the health of the people in this country.
Why can’t we choose a medicare or a public option? Why are we going to be forced to buy a product? If Bush had done this, the progressives would be screaming about it. We are told that if people don’t buy health insurance they will be fined. No one should pay that fine or be required to buy anything, anywhere in this country. It’s wrong. Everything about this bill is wrong.
Other countries can figure this out and provide health care for everyone, but I guess my country is just too damn stupid. Or, the people we elect certainly are.
Obama is not doing well so far, is he. I hate to admit this, but he looks like a one-term president at the moment. He is not strongly leading on anything and certainly not on health care (or climate change).
*Speaking of stupid — the woman leading the “kill the bill” rally in Washington yesterday was my Congresswoman, the frightening Michele Bachmann. She is right about this bill on one point — it’s not really worth passing. Unfortunately it makes her agree with Howard Dean, something that probably both would find ironic and kind of horrifying.

@Bugga: Wall Street is making record profits this year, like never seen before. And Obama’s plan to make poor people be required to buy health insurance is unconstitutional and outrageous. I remember when I was in college at times I had zero money, couldn’t afford to eat or put even a gallon of gas in my pitiful car which was only insured because my dad felt generous at the time. But there was no way I could have bought “affordable” health insurance. That’s not remotely realistic to expect people to buy health insurance when they can’t feed themselves or their kids. This government is as insane as the last one we had…. Obama needs his head examined, as does every damn Democrat in Congress. I don’t know if I’d kill this bill, it’s hardly a bill at all despite it’s gargantuan size. I think I’d vote for it just to see what would happen: A big nothing, or some fireworks? It’s like a wet firecracker, anything could happen, but it’s bound to be disappointing. It’s also a big piece of giveaways to the insurance companies and nothing much for the rest of us.
